The book I read to research this post was Dog Training by Anita Rogers which is a very good book that I read at Kindle Unlimited. This book is around 25 pages so is quite short. Much of the book emphasises the use of positive reinforcement and in particular clicker training. A dog can realistically be trained to a high standard in 2 weeks. Positive reinforcement or reward based training is giving the dog a treat each time he does something right like sits on command. Rewards for looking cute are a definite no no. This book also suggests using a flexi-lead to teach a dog to walk to heel on command. This lead can be flexible or rigid and if the dog refuses to adhere to the heel command is made rigid to allow more control over the dog. The lead if the dog walks to heel should remain slack. You should use the heel command and if the dog doesn’t do what is requested refuse to walk any further until he stops pulling out of you. You basically wear the dog down although you use the clicker and give him a treat when he does it correctly. This book is somewhat brief and a bit scant about much of the training information. I did enjoy reading it though and do recommend it.
